The rock structures on both sides of the road are the Monsarrat Ave entrance to Fort Ruger. Ft Ruger doesn't even show up on most maps any more, but the guard post is still there. The one on the left was just an anchor point, but the one on the right has a decent size room and firing slits. Beyond this point there were a lot of military buildings, most of which were removed in the 70s and 80s.
